Incineration is an exhilarating story about a post-outbreak, future society. Running water and electricity are a thing of the past. The streets of New York are lined with deteriorating cars and the bones of bodies long decayed. The main character, Phee, was just ten when everyone died. The handful of survivors left, are completely altered by the Avian Rodentia virus, leaving behind an unhinged and violent society. Phee herself has been scarred, unable to handle any touch from another human.
Tired of barely living life and succumbing to invasive assaults, Phee leaves the mild safety of her group behind in search of a better life. In her pursuit, death nearly finds her before a group of men intervene.
Their intentions seem well, but can she trust the men that seem to be helping her?
Everything in Phee’s life becomes questionable. She doesn’t know who to trust or if she can open her heart to love. She doesn’t know who to fight for when traitors emerge.
When her new life is threatened with Phee at the center of it all, will she survive in one piece, or will she burn from the inside out?

Incineration The Incineration Series Book 1 eBook Annie Streger

I went into this story with the mindset that I would be reading a story about a girl trying to survive life after a viral outbreak. It was that and SO much more! Phee is someone we all would hope to be if put in similar situations. The strength and power of someone who had been through more than her fair share, was astounding. The story had so many twist and turns that I had a hard time putting the book down! This writer has such a way with words, I felt like I was a fly on the wall in the story. With all the threats, fighting, betrayal, and hurt Phee encounters, she still opens her heart to love. Will she be able to trust again? What happened to her parents? Are they still alive? Will she be able to save Hudson? Can she finally find happiness with Emory? I'm excited to read book 2 to get some much needed answers!

Incineration The Incineration Series Book 1 eBook Annie Streger Reviews

This book actually started out pretty well, with a young female protagonist that you were looking forward to see grow who had an interesting backstory and the building blocks of a gutsy protagonist. Phee could have been really interesting, but shortly after her big escape toward the front of the book, things started to go wrong. The entire supporting cast was shallow and uninteresting, the romance angle that was established was forced and arbitrary (it didn't help that her would-be paramour didn't have a personality), the dialogue felt off (like it was written in another language and then badly translated), and Phee herself was written very inconsistently. At a certain point, every supporting character's motivations and behavior just seemed ridiculous. I only stayed with the story as long as I did because I kept hoping that Phee would stabilize and was trying to look forward to her actively attempting a rescue of her own, but the story was just too bogged down with problems for me. About 2/3 of the way through, I had to call it quits.
A post-apocalyptic story with a YA feel. The main heroine suffers traumatic abuse (warning for anyone who has trouble dealing with rape) but ends up being a bad-ass fighter in the end. I enjoyed the story and would recommend it to anyone who likes these kinds of stories. I'm just not sure I'm interested enough to read the next book.
I loved this book, it has polarizing characters with an even more polarizing storyline. A must read for dystopian lovers.
Minor editing errors
I hadn't see anything else from this writer, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Based on the first book of this series, I believe this writer will have a formidable group of followers anticipating her next projects, for a very long time. There are enough likeable characters in the story so far to provide light and hope within some dark situations. I'm very much looking forward to starting the next book in this series, as the first book was quite compellingly
Wow! A great book and such a quick read! You can't help but love Phee!! I can't wait for the second one!!!
I really enjoyed this book. The story was compelling and the characters felt real -- especially Phee. There were definitely some dark themes of survival mixed in, but it worked with the post-apocalyptic atmosphere. Overall, a solid read.
Really impressed with the way this book draws you in. Will be interesting to find out more about what is to come... many mysteries to be revealed yet.
